this movie totally bites. Marky Mark shame on you for even being in this one. I'm glad the wind got the hot dog man.
Pros: looking at Marky Mark
Cons: everything else in the movie

Ok, what?! Normally, I really enjoy M. Night Shyamalan's movies but this one really missed the mark for me. It was just weird but I will go see his next movie though because I really like him.

Ugh! Horrible movie! Bad acting! Not scary! Unrealistic! Waste of $8. I love Mark Whalberg, but this is definately his worse movie.
Pros: none
Cons: the whole movie

I just saw M Night’s new movie, The Happening. It’s about people who spontaneously commit suicide because of some gas released because we humans are bad to the earth. About one fifth of the way into the film, I wanted to self immolate, partly in homage to all of the high school filmmakers who make better movies than M Night Shameonyou. But something even worse was happening. I found I could not leave the theater. I was stunned into continuing my seated position in the thrall of such bad cinema. Set up a camera in the men’s room of the theater – or even the parking lot - and it would be more interesting, with better acting, better plot, more frightening special effects and fewer canned scary moments. M Night should patent the sound of a hammer hitting metal, which is used to frighten the audience, since the film itself seems to induce laughter and/or sleep. Wind blowing through trees = special effects. Acting = actors and actresses (sorry for the exaggerations) performing acts no human would perform if those circumstances were real. But the stupid plot had to be advanced. And then the preachy PC ending. How do movies like this get made and actually shown in theaters? Now that’s a scary story.
Pros: I got some sleep
Cons: Everything about the film

Before you read the rest, know that this review will be too nice to really describe the movie, only because there are no words in the english language to describe how horrible the movie is. The ONLY reason i did not walk out of the movie was because I was on a date, otherwise, I would have walked out, just like I did with Lady in the Water(my first and only walk out). The director of some good movies such as Sixth Sense and Unbreakable(it was ok), seems to be getting worse and worse. Almost as if he is running out of Ideas. This movie involves the some of the worst acting I have ever seen, no real plot, the only interesting part about it was the gore, and frankly, it makes you angry at the end. The movie is HORRIBLE, mediocre, and just not worth watching, buying, or renting. Don't go watch the movie. You will be glad you didn't.
Pros: Absolutely none
Cons: The ENTIRE movie

With a non-existent plot, a poor script and some of the most ham-fisted acting performances in years, 'The Happening' inadvertently (or deliberately .. ???) contrives to become a perfect storm of mediocrity. This film lacks any redeeming features of any sort. If you deliberatewly set out to make a cornball movie you would not likely trump this lemon. I'd rather suffer through a root-canal than watch this drivel again.
Pros: Absolutely none.
Cons: The entire movie, its actors, cameramen. director and producer.

Too bad I didn't write this review right after we saw this horses a$$ of a flick. Not only was the script poorly developed, it was lacking in basic substance. The best thing it had going for it was the directors initial success and Marky Mark. That said, lets jump into it. If you want to be disappointed and so flat a third of the way thru that you're too lazy to walk out, this is your flick. I can't believe that the insults to the American movie goer continues, but it does. Honestly, save your money unless you just want to see emotionless performances by actors who know the project is an exercise in Hollywood greed and disregard for true creativity and art. An absolute waste of time, effort, life and not worth the celluloid the film was printed on. Gimme my $18 back!!!
Pros: It was not as long as Titanic
Cons: It sank disastrously like the ship did

I gave this move a three-star rating because I saw it a week ago and still am not sure if it was awful or wonderful. The acting was terrible, but considering that the actors have proven in other films that they are at least decent actors, it seemed that M. Night directed them to act in such a way. There were parts of the film that were so laughable that the entire audience had to laugh. I kept hearing people say, "Is this movie for real?" and "What is going on?!?" To me, the film came across as a sort of social satire. I cannot believe that a man who has written and directed so many brilliant moives and actors who have proven to be at least convincing were all so off in each of their crafts that they made such a terrible film. I think that it must be part social warning part social criticism. Maybe M. Night was trying to make a point in an uncommon way? Brilliant or pathetic, I cannot say.
Pros: It can seem completely brilliant if you ponder the message long enough.
Cons: You have to stop laughing at the absurd dialogue in order to realize that there is a message.

I gave it one star because I could not give it zero... senseless gore... people were actually laughing it was so ridiculous and this from someone who had earned my respect with his previous films. Took the easy road cheap gore and PC content. Not worth a dime... and a side note... in my theatre was a couple who brought a 4 yr old girl to this garbage... their ignorance was about the only memorable thing about this outing...
Pros: it finally ended
Cons: I trusted M. Night

What possessed M. Night Shyamalan to make this movie a slasher gore fest? Sixth Sense was the success it was (and still is in repeated viewings) because, so much of the story unfolding before our eyes required us to pay attention and put things together in our minds. Not for "The Happening". We will show you in LIVING COLOR (even on someone's I-Phone)! What purpose does it serve? Why does it suddenly become necessary to shock and disgust the audience? One scene was so badly set up that a portion of the audience found it funny and laughed. Think of Psycho ...eeeehh I think it was 3 ...or was it the 14th installment?...Anywho, when his real mother admits as much and he responds by hitting her with a shovel. As she bounced off the table and fell to the floor, the sight - so ridiculous, left the audience howling. I even started to feel bad about laughing both yesterday evening and during that film. The actors? Mark Wahlberg - getting better with every film and aside from some hokey dialogue - believable. Zooey Deschanel - rent Elf - watch repeatedly - this movie? - they simply used her image, filmed 7 minutes of actual dialogue and used a inflatable doll for the rest of the film. John Leguizamo - eh. Not a horrible movie but, not worth a night out on the town. See Ironman for the second or third time before you spend full price on this one. Wait for the DVD release and have a friend edit out the unnecessary gore - you can then enjoy this wonderful 23 minute 14 second vignette.
