Not a community place
by Stephanie1
I went to Sunset Ribs this evening. Although we were not there to eat, it took 15 minutes for someone to come greet us. They were not that busy.
The purpose for my visit was to request that they hang a poster for a benefit I have put together for my niece's son. The lives of my niece, 21-year-old Danielle Nicholson and her friend, 23-year-old Josh Lecce were taken this past Memorial Day weekend by a drunk driver.
Carol, the manager at Sunset, was the one to finally come over to greet us. I explained about the benefit, she acknowledged that she was aware of the tragedy, and I asked to hang the poster. I was told no. Her reasoning was that the poster listed area establishments that will be participating in the poker run and Stash's, where the benefit will be held, are her competition. I can tell you now, there are 10 other establishments that have readily agreed to hang the posters and are closer in proximity to Stash's than Sunset Ribs.
All I can say is shame on you Carol. Apparently you have never lost someone you loved and needed to reach out for help or loved someone enough to be able to empathize with someone that has lost a loved one. This is not about the businesses, this is about a 1 1/2 year old boy, Ethan, that lost his mother. This is about giving back to a community that supports your business. As tough as times are, you are the only one that said no, and I didn't even ask you to donate anything other than a little wall space.
I hope that you are never in a position to depend on the compassion of others and have to deal with someone like you.
- Pros: none
- Cons: no sense of community
